Overview
Volatus is a drone delivery simulation and monitoring system, with a .NET 9 backend and an Angular frontend. The project’s focus is to demonstrate a clean, testable backend architecture.
Architecture
The backend follows layered separation with dependency inversion:
- Volatus.Api — REST controllers, error middleware and background services
- Volatus.Domain — entities, business services and interfaces
- Volatus.Data — repositories and the Entity Framework context
- Volatus.Tests — unit tests for entities, services and the worker
Technical highlights
- REST APIs for drone, delivery and dashboard management
- Async worker (
DeliveryBackgroundService) for real-time simulation - Repository Pattern with dependency injection
- Centralized error-handling middleware
- PostgreSQL with Entity Framework Core
- Docker Compose orchestration (API + database)
What I learned
Isolating the domain from infrastructure made the code far more testable and easier to evolve — exactly the kind of architecture decision that matters as a system grows.
